MONROE, Conn. — A West Haven man has been arrested in connection with a car vs. motorcycle accident over the summer that killed a Brookfield businessman and seriously injured his wife, police said.
Louis Maiorino, 58, was arrested on a warrant on Thursday, Dec. 7, and charged with misconduct with a motor vehicle, failure to drive in the proper lane and second-degree assault.
Maiorino was released on $100,000 bond for a Dec. 15 appearance in Bridgeport Superior Court.
The accident occurred on Route 25 in Monroe at 7:15 p.m. July 16, when a northbound motorcycle operated by Dan Falls of New Milford was hit head-on by a southbound Hyundai Sonata driven by Maiorino that crossed the center line, police said. The Sonata came to a stop in the middle of the roadway.
Dan Falls and his wife, Betty, were thrown off the bike to the shoulder of the road. They were taken to St. Vincent's Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Dan Falls died about six weeks later on Aug. 24 of his grave injuries.
Betty Falls suffered multiple broken bones and internal injuries and was in the ICU on a ventilator after the accident, according to her family.
Dan Falls owned and operated F&D Excavating and Falls Fuels, both in Brookfield.
Maiorino and the passengers of his vehicle were transported to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The fatal crash occurred on Main Street, north of the intersection with Bart Road.
Due to the severity of the crash and the injuries sustained by Daniel and Betty Falls, the Monroe Police Department Serious Accident Reconstruction Team was assigned to investigate the crash.
