Lightning Strike Causes Fire At Monroe House

MONROE, Conn. — Monroe, Stepney and Stevenson firefighters responded to a home on Cutlers Farm Road Monday after a resident reported a lightning strike and that the basement was filling with smoke.

Fire officials said crews found fire in the walls of the basement extending to the first floor. With the assistance of all three departments, the fire was extinguished and ventilation was performed.

Monroe, Stepney and Stevenson Fire Departments also responded to a residence on Bagburn Hill Road for a reported structure fire. It was later reported as a minor fire under the cabinets and was extinguished with an extinguisher with units doing further checks.
