The two were busted when the Stamford Police Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit received intel that they would be in town to make a large heroin delivery at the notorious Red Carpet Inn, 1209 East Main St., early Friday, said Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin.

After receiving the information, agents staked out the area and around 1:30 a.m. Friday, Linwood Cogdell, 30, of Waterbury and Caitlyn Durkin, 30, of Sandy Hook pulled into the parking lot.

When Cogdell got out of the vehicle and officers approached he took off toward a wooded area in an effort to escape, Conklin said.

A "vicious" fight ensued before officers were able to bring down the 250 pound Cogdell and place him under arrest, he added.

During a search, agents found 150 bags of heroin in his shorts pocket and a loaded Smith & Wesson .40-caliber semi-automatic pistol with an illegal magazine fully loaded with 14 rounds, police said.

As agents were struggling with Cogdell, Durkin, who had stayed in the vehicle, attempted to drive away, Conklin said.

Officers were able to stop her and during a search found another 20 bags of heroin, 12 illegal pills, and another fully-loaded magazine and at least 15 additional bullets in a bag.

Conklin said Cogdell, released from federal prison just two months ago is on probation. He was charged with possession, possession with intent to sell, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and interfering with police in addition to other charges. He was held in lieu of a $250,000 court appearance bond.

Durkin, who is also on state parole for larceny and burglary convictions, was charged with possession, possession with intent, inferring with police, and various other charges. She is being held on $75,000, which will likely be revoked due to her probation status.
