State officials will be at the seminar that begins at 9 a.m. at Westport Town Hall.

The Connecticut Office of Tourism is launching a new initiative to stimulate tourism to the state and its towns and businesses have the opportunity to take advantage of it and increase their exposure.

“Westport is awash is great things to do and can carve out a niche for itself if all of our businesses jump on this opportunity,“ said Matthew Mandell Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce. “The seminar will give them the know how to execute what is needed to accomplish this goal.”

The State is embracing social media and focusing on a revamped CTVisit.com website that will be completely content driven by all the venues, businesses and attractions in the state. Ad dollars will be spent from New York to Boston to show that Connecticut has much to offer and is only a few hours’ drive from either city. The new site went live on Monday and the ads will begin in the next couple of weeks.

Speaking at the seminar will be Felicia Lindau, VP Adams & Knight, who is the lead consultant on social media to the State effort.

"I look forward to sharing insights, tips and tricks about the robust, all-new CTvisit.com, Connecticut's official tourism website, so that local attractions, restaurants and hotels can take maximum (and free) advantage of the site's 3 million-plus visitors each year," she said.

The website, which is where ads will direct people to, will take advantage of the cross pollination of businesses in an area or sector. Someone looking to see a show will then see local options on where to eat. If they are looking to do an activity, such as going to a nature center, then local accommodations or other activities will appear.

“That’s why this is a team effort,” says Mandell, “everyone needs to be on the site to both help themselves and others. You get a lot of bang for no bucks.”

Also speaking will be Janet Serra, Executive Director of the CT Convention and Visitors Bureau.

First Selectman of Westport, Jim Marpe, will give an opening address.

“I invite all businesses to attend the seminar to learn how they can take advantage of Westport’s popularity as a recreational, artistic, shopping and dining destination.”

Whether you own a restaurant, head up a nonprofit arts or environmental venue, a hotel or any other possible tourist destination, this seminar will help you to spread the word about what you have to offer.
