Waterbury resident Andre Reed, 26, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for distributing heroin to a female Danbury overdose victim.
The arrest comes as part of a statewide initiative targeting drug dealers who distribute heroin, fentanyl and opioids that cause overdoses.
Shortly after 11:30 p.m. on March 1, 2016, members of the Danbury Police Department were dispatched to a service station, where there was a report of a “woman in distress in a restroom.”
At the service station, police found the woman on her knees, with her face on the floor, taking deep, gasping breaths every 20 seconds. She was also holding a syringe.
John Durham, the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, said that the woman was transported to a local hospital, where she was placed on life support. She has since recovered.
Reed was arrested on Dec. 21 last year. He pleaded guilty on April 4 to one count of distribution of heroin. He's been remanded into the custody of the Connecticut Department of Corrections.
