FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Bridgeport saw its first homicide of the year, and a 10-year-old boy from New Canaan died of complications of the flu.

In case you missed them, here are some of the top stories of the week in Fairfield County, as reported by Daily Voice:

A 21-year-old man was shot to death early Tuesday morning in Bridgeport's first homicide of the year. Police said that Jawuan Green was shot at The Snack Shop on Newfield Avenue and taken to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

New Canaan mourned the loss of Nico Mallozzi , a 10-year-old boy who died of complications brought on by flu and pneumonia last weekend. Mallozzi was not feeling well before traveling to a hockey tournament in Buffalo, where he was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with Influenza B. His condition worsened and he was taken to another New York hospital, where he died on Sunday. Services were set for Sunday and Monday.

A Darien woman was charged with drunken driving after police said she drove the wrong way on I-95 and sideswiped a police cruiser . A state police trooper had tried to use his cruiser to stop 26-year-old Ashton Steen, who police said was driving the wrong way, which resulted in the accident.

A former tax preparer from Bridgeport was arrested after police said she used stolen identities to steal power service from United Illuminating . Police said that Sharonda Chisholm-Ferguson used six stolen identities from several other states to steal power for years.

A woman who had been banned from Whole Foods was arrested after police said she was caught shoplifting at the Westport location. Brianna Pennell of New Haven had fled the store after being confronted by security in September, police said, but security personnel gave her license plate to police, who were abel to track her down and arrest her.

One Norwalk resident's passion for soccer, as well as a chance Craig's List posting, led to the foundation of Keep Kickin Soccer in Norwalk . Now two years old, Keep Kickin runs summer camps in Norwalk and Westport and works with local community leagues and school teams as well as individuals throughout the year.

Employees tracking a "putrid" smell at the Golden Hill Street courthouse in Bridgeport on Wednesday eventually discovered the source: some decapitated chickens under a bench . It's unclear how or why the chickens were there, but this reportedly is not the first time this has happened.

A new ranking by Niche.com found that 15 public high schools in Fairfield County are among the best in the state for athletes. Fairfield Warde High School topped the entire list.

Two Norwalk men were arrested after police found cocaine, marijuana, a military grade ballistic vest and a stolen trailer at their home. Police had searched the home of Christopher Macdow and Scott Kostrna as part of an investigation into drug sales in the city.

A 45-year-old man from Torrington was charged with sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl in Shelton . Police said that Christopher Galvin met the girl online, and sexually assaulted her in his car after she fell asleep.
