FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — From the reopening of a favorite old restaurant in Stratford to the arrest of a college student who worked as an EMT in Easton, here are the top stories of the past week in Fairfield County.

The fridges are jam-packed with long dogs, the pinball machine has a place of honor in the corner and the hot sauce recipe is still a well-guarded secret. The Cricket Car Hop — a Stratford landmark for more than 50 years — is once again open for business.

Christopher Barlow Jr., a 20-year-old EMT in Easton who is a student at Sacred Heart University, was arrested and held without bail after he was busted with a cache of illegal weapons in his home in Duxbury, Mass.

Ivanna Krekhtyak, 36, was found dead in her Fairfield home after she tried to strangle her 8-year-old daughter, police said. She took her own life nearly two years to the day after her husband had hanged himself.

A sassy Shelton senior and her creative grandson, who have amassed millions of views for their hilarious “Grandma Lill and Kevin” YouTube videos, will be featured on NBC’s new hit “Little Big Shots: Forever Young” on Wednesday, July 5. Lillian Droniak, 87, began making the weekly videos in 2012 with her grandson, Kevin Droniak, of Newtown, a junior at Western Connecticut State University.

Kurtis Liska, 27, of New Fairfield was killed when his car slammed into another vehicle that was stopped on the shoulder of Interstate 84 westbound near Exit 9.

Greenwich was named the safest place to raise a child in the United States in a new ranking by the home security website SafeWise. Other Fairfield County towns to make the national list were Fairfield, coming in at No. 3, Ridgefield at No. 15 and Westport at No. 30. Darien, New Canaan and Newtown were honorable mentions.

Alexandra Barnard of Darien was charged with providing alcohol to underage friends at a party in her home on her 19th birthday — and her mother Lendy R. Donnelly, 49, was arrested on charges of allowing the drinking to happen, police said.

After a highly intoxicated teen was injured at a graduation party in New Canaan, the host of the party was arrested along with her father and brother. Jim Vos, 54, his daughter Sophie Vos, 18, and his son, Hayden Vos, 22, were all arrested after police found evidence of underage drinking at their home.
