Best Birthday Ever: Trumbull Teacher Celebrates With Unicorn Frappuccino

TRUMBULL, Conn. — At Starbucks, you get a free drink on your birthday. On Thursday, Heatherly Law made the most of that offer by picking up a special limited-edition Unicorn Frappuccino.

The preschool teacher even matched her outfit — and her glittery nail polish — to the multi-colored sugary drink, which has been causing quite a commotion on social media since its debut Wednesday.

"It's my birthday and I had to treat myself," said Heatherly, a resident of Stratford. "I thought about getting a free grande coffee, but then I heard about the Unicorn Frappuccino yesterday ... "

She was exuberant about the colorful drink — with a lot of pink and a little turquoise, which makes purple as it blends and changes colors.

"I love unicorns and my favorite color is purple," said Heatherly, who teaches special ed preschool at the Trumbull Early Childhood Education Center. It even looks a bit like a birthday cake — with eye-popping colors, whipped cream and colored sprinkles.

And how does the drink taste?

"It's very sweet," she said. "And then it's tangy, kind of sour. And a whole bunch of sweetness. Like the Pixy Stix candy."

A grande Unicorn Frappuccino has 410 calories and 59 grams — that's 15 teaspoons — of sugar. And all that sugar may come in handy for Heatherly.

"I'm going to Piyo class next." That's a combination Pilates and yoga class to the uninitiated.

"I'm gonna be hyped up!," she said.

And for anyone who thinks the drinks are just for kids, Heatherly says she is 44 — and held up four fingers on each hand. Or maybe she's 8, at heart.

The limited edition drink will be available through April 23 at Starbucks.
