For this year's production of "Hamlet," director Claire Kelly has set the production in the early 1950s, the period after World War II, reflecting the fragile and dangerous world in which Hamlet lives.
“It was a time of rebuilding of families and countries. People were still dealing with great loss while trying to move on and find hope. On the surface life seemed to be moving forward but there was an undercurrent of uncertainty and fear that the new beginnings could be torn away,” Kelly said.
The cast includes Bonnie Antosh, Justin Cunningham, Wynn Harmon, James Hesse, Simone Moore, John Pasha, Haley Robinson, Alexander Shaw, Scott Watson and Joey Santia as Hamlet.
This year, the production is produced in association with 22Q Entertainment, Robert Levinstein and Alan Wager.
Every night at 6:30 p.m., one hour in advance of the main stage production, there will be a special 30-minute “Hamlet For Kids” presentation for children performed by the theater’s apprentice company.
Shakespeare on the Sound’s production of "Hamlet" continues through Sunday, July 3.
Reserved seating is still available for $50 at every performance and children 12 and under are free.
