Shoppers Snap Up Supplies, Officials Warns Of Strong Winds, Snow

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Shoppers can expect long lines at the supermarket today, as residents stock up to hunker down during tomorrow’s expected snowstorm.

People snapped up the usual staples — bread, milk, eggs and oj — and made a serious dent in the fireplace logs outside Fairfield’s Super Stop & Shop on Kings Highway Cutoff.

With the nor'easter expected to drop as much as 2 feet of snow on parts of Fairfield County, Eversource is getting ready to respond to downed wires and power outages that could follow.

The utility company announced that it is preparing for the possibility of tree-related damage to its electric system, and will have crews and support staff ready to respond. Customers should also prepare for the possibility of outages.

State Sen. Marilyn Moore sent an e-mail to her constituents in parts of Bridgeport, Trumbull and Monroe, urging them to stay off the roads, if possible, and sign up for emergency alerts at www.ctalert.gov.

UI customers who lose power can call 1-800-7-CALL-UI (1-800-722-5584) to report an outage or to speak with a customer service representative, she said.
