The National Weather Service announced that a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 9 p.m. Thursday. The storm is expected to hit the Fairfield County area between 3:15 and 3:30 p.m. The storms will produce heavy rains and wind gusts of up to 60 mph.

Residents should expect damage to roofs, sidings and trees, and for your protection you should move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

Thunderstorms are expected to increase in intensity into the evening, and a flash flood warning has been issued until late Thursday night. Three inches of rain or more are possible where the heaviest and most persistent storms hit, and could lead to flash flooding.
