Ridgefield Rower Voted Junior Athlete Of The Year By USRowing

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. — Kaitlyn Kynast of Ridgefield, a rower with the Connecticut Boat Club, was named the Fan's Choice Winner for Junior Athlete of the Year for US Rowing.

Kynast was captain of the team the last two of her three years of rowing with Norwalk-based CBC and was coached by Liz Trond. 

All three years, she has competed at nationals, winning a gold medal in 2016 and in 2017. She was also a member of the Under 19 National Team for the last three years, winning a gold medal her novice year in 2015 and then a bronze in 2016 and in 2017. 

Off the water, she earned a first-place hammer at the 2017 C.R.A.S.H.-B.s.

Kynast, 18, graduated this year from Ridgefield High School and now attends Stanford University. 

In the 2017 World Rowing Junior Championships, she was third in the women's four. In 2016, she was third in the women's pair. In 2015, she won the women's four.

Nationally, she finished fourth in the four with coxswain at the 2015 USRowing Youth National Championships and won the four with coxswain and pair at the 2015 USRowing Northeast Regional Championships.

She began rowing as a way to train for lacrosse.
