MONROE, Conn. -- Coaches, students and even parents are excited by the approval by Monroe voters to install artificial turf on the playing field at Masuk High School, replacing the school's natural grass fields, according to the Monroe Courier.

Masuk Athletic Director John DeGennaro told the Monroe Courier that the school's athletes have been at a competitive disadvantage for some time due to other schools playing on artificial turf, said the Monroe Courier.

The field, approved by voters by an overwhelming margin -- 1,231 Yes votes to 492 No votes -- will have a shock pad under the turf to help ward off injuries and will be made of coated sand and organic filler rather than rubber chips, added the Monroe Courier.
