Fairfield Little League Softball Snags State Championship

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Fairfield rode two late rallies Tuesday at Torrington's Colangelo Field, overcoming Granby/East Granby 10-8 to win the Little League Connecticut 10-Year-Old Softball State Championship.

The state champs are (left to right): Kelley Monahan, Fiona Vallerie, Kira Fazio, Arianna Kedersha, Gabriella Mercado, Paige O'Neill, Morgan McGowan, Gina Solow, Alyssa Russo, Maggie Swanson, Lauren Foley, Alexandra Lewey, and Carol Reis.

Trailing 5-1 in the fifth, Fairfield scored six runs to take a short-lived lead, as Granby answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Fairfield scored three runs in the top of the sixth and held off a Granby rally in the bottom of the inning to capture Fairfield's first 10-year-old state title since 2010.

The team now heads to Pennsylvania to represent Connecticut in the Eastern Region tournament beginning this weekend.
