Five Bridgeport Students Earn Scholarships For West Indian American Group

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — The West Indian American Association of Greater Bridgeport will celebrate its 20th annual Scholarship Banquet on Saturday, honoring five local college freshmen.

This year’s recipients are Bridgeport residents Asha Robinson and Katrina Green, Stratford residents Shannon Mullings and Kaya Wells and Zinnia Hall of Milford.

Hall and Mullings both attend the University of Connecticut. Robinson attends the University of Bridgeport.

Wells is a student at Florida Southern College and Green attends Drexel University.

The nonprofit social organization will also honor PSEG with its Corporate Award and Rev. Hopeton Scott and Karen Kellers will receive Community Service Awards.

The keynote speaker for the evening is the Honorable Trudy Deans, Jamaica’s Consul General to New York.

The banquet will take place at Grassy Hill Country Club in Orange at 7:30 p.m. Guests will enjoy dinner, awards and dancing to MPM band and DJ RulerTone.
