The legislation reduces the burden of having to take the loyalty oath from annually to every two years.
Sredzinski cited the concerns of town officials who claim that requiring an annual retaking of the oath takes up too much time.
“It is unnecessary to require these individuals to take the oath every single year.” Sredzinski said. “The time that it takes to track down each and every individual who needs to take the oath takes away valuable time from these individuals who could otherwise be training on responding to emergencies. This is commonsense legislation that simply makes the process more effective, and I want to thank Monroe’s Director of Emergency Services Dave York for bringing this idea forward.”
The bill now heads to the state Senate.
The 2016 legislative session adjourns at midnight on Wednesday, May 4.
