Patricia Barger, of Fairfield, was crossing the road from west to east near Katonah Drive around 7:45 p.m. when she was hit by a northbound car driven by Sharon Ranney, 63, police said.

Barger was not crossing in a crosswalk, and there is no indication that speed played a factor in the accident, police said. She died at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, police said.

The incident is under investigation.
