Trumbull Man Charged With Accidentally Firing Gun Into Neighbor's Apartment

TRUMBULL, Conn. -- A Trumbull man was arrested after police said he accidentally fired a gun into a neighboring apartment when he heard a fight going on outside, according to the Connecticut Post.

A resident of the Avalon Gates apartment complex in Trumbull reported that on Thursday, June 29 he heard a fight going on outside, followed shortly by a bullet coming through his floor and going past his head and into his ceiling, the Connecticut Post reported.

Police determined that the bullet had come from the apartment on the floor below, according to the Connecticut Post. The resident, 28-year-old Matthew Duncan, had also heard the fight and had run out onto the balcony with his gun, police told the Connecticut Post. The gun accidentally went off and into the ceiling, according to the Connecticut Post.

Duncan at first denied having fired the gun, or even having a gun, but eventually he admitted to it, according to the Connecticut Post.

He was arrested while at a gun store in Monroe, trying to buy another handgun, according to the Connecticut Post. He charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm, second-degree reckless endangerment and interfering with police, according to the Connecticut Post. He was released on a $10,000 bond, the Connecticut Post reported.
