TRUMBULL, Conn. -- A 43-year-old Trumbull man was arrested and charged with a violent sexual assault in a home this weekend, according to police.
A woman told police that Richard Gray had been angry at her and drinking Saturday evening. She said Gray confronted her and forcefully placed her in a headlock, held her by the neck and threatened to strike her with a bottle, according to police.
At one point the woman said she broke free and tried to call 911, but Gray threw her phone and broke it, police said. He then picked her up and threw her into another room where he again held her down, grabbed her by the throat and sexually assaulted her, according to police.
Afterward, the woman waited for an opportunity to leave the house, and once she was safe she called the police. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Gray was arrested at his home and charged with unlawful restraint, strangulation, assault, sexual assault, threatening, interfering with a 911 call and disorderly conduct. He was held on $250,000 bond and went to court on Monday.
