TRUMBULL, Conn. -- A Monroe woman was charged with falsely claiming that she had been taken hostage by her boyfriend, leading police to an hours-long standoff at the Royce Complex on Old Town Road in Trumbull this week.

Police received a report at around 1 p.m. on Wednesday from a woman who claimed that she was being held against her will by her boyfriend, who had a weapon, police said. She reported that she was being held captive at the Royce Complex on Old Town Road.

Trumbull Police and the Southwest Regional Emergency Response Team responded to the scene and closed down the apartment complex. Several residents were evacuated from their homes and nearby schools were placed on lockdown while police set up a perimeter. After a few hours, police entered the apartment and found it vacant, with no signs of a struggle.

Police investigated and found that 31-year-old Lauren Pires of Monroe had claimed to be someone else when calling police, and had falsely reported the incident in order to have her estranged husband arrested, according to police.

A warrant was issued for her arrest, and she was taken into custody on Thursday.

Pires was charged with falsely reporting an incident, breach of peace and interfering with police. She was released on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 25.
