The incident took place on an access road between the high school and Hillcrest middle school. A Trumbull police officer, who was posted in the high school parking lot, responded to the scene and immediately summoned Trumbull EMS, police said. The injured student was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital, where he is being treated.
Police said that the male student was lying on the roadway as the approaching vehicle stopped, and the driver exited the car. A female passenger, believing that the boy had moved, started to drive the car forward and struck the victim, who was still on the ground in front of the car, police said.
There were several witnesses to the incident, and all students involved remained on the scene and provided information to investigators, school administrators and security staff, police said. Nobody has been charged, and the incident remains under investigation, police said.
