A Stamford man was beaten by several men while coming come to his West Side apartment on Sunday, according to the Stamford Police.

Sgt. Jennifer Pinto said the man was attacked around 10:15 p.m. Sunday when he was entering the side door to the apartment when he heard someone behind him and turned and saw a masked man run up behind him and began beating him.

As the two fought, a group of other men joined the fight hitting him with sticks and branches, Pinto said.

The man was saved when he began to scream and his family came outside and the assailants ran away, Pinto said.

When police arrived the man told officers he thought he knew who his attackers were because he had been attacked in the same fashion in December. He did not report the December attack or reveal their identities to officers, Pinto said. Detectives are working with the victim.
