Jennifer Madrid, 32, of Riverside Avenue, faces 35 counts each of first-degree larceny, third-degree burglary and first-degree forgery in the case, police said. She is being held on $25,000 and is scheduled to appear in court on May 23.
The victim came to police headquarters on March 15, after Fairfield County Bank informed him that Madrid had fraudulently cashed 35 checks she later admitted to officers she had stolen from his checkbook after getting into his locked office using a credit card, police said.
She said she stole the checks to support her drug habit, police said.
Madrid was arrested May 15 at Orange Police Department, where Westport police took custody of her on a warrant.
