New Fairfield Man Charged With Murdering, Sexually Assaulting Woman, 55

NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A New Fairfield man has been charged with murder and sexual assault in connection with the death of a 55-year-old woman on May 2, police said.

Steven M. Flood, 32, of 26 Candlewood Road, was charged with felony murder, murder committed in the course of sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault in a spousal or cohabiting relationship, third-degree larceny and third-degree criminal trespass. He was held on $1 million bond, state police said.

On May 2, police responded to 26 Candlewood Road in New Fairfield for a well-being check. When officers arrived, they found the 55-year-old woman dead inside, according to police.

The woman was later identified as Susan Guido, and her death was ruled a homicide due to blunt impact to the head, according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Flood was arrested on May 8 after being identified as a "person of interest" and was initially charged with third-degree larceny and held on $100,000 bond. He had been tracked down by a state trooper and his K9 partner while camping in Union, on the Connecticut/Massachusetts border in the northern part of the state, police said.

Police have not released many details about the crime but were able to secure a warrant for Flood's arrest on the murder charges. Flood was arrested Friday at Danbury Superior Court. The arrest warrant was sealed by the court.
