MONROE, Conn. -- The Monroe Volunteer Fire Department held its annual awards ceremony recently, recognizing several members who this year reached notable service achievements.
Among those to be honored were Assistant Fire Chief Pete Chila and Firefighter Chris Marsden, who each are celebrating 15 years of service to the company, according to a statement from the fire department.
Also honored were active life members Stu Haisley, who has served for 60 years, and John Viets, who has served 45 years, according to the department.
The longest serving member honored during the event was Andy Chacho, who this year is celebrating 73 years with the department. Chacho, it was said, still attends every monthly meeting.
