MONROE, Conn. -- Thieves have been targeting unlocked cars in Monroe and the surrounding communities in recent weeks, and Monroe Police are warning residents to keep their valuables safe by locking their doors.

Two cars have been stolen recently, police said. Both were left unlocked with the keys left inside. Several more cars that were left unlocked were entered, and owners later discovered that valuable items such as credit cards and jewelry were stolen.

These incidents continue to plague the area. Police said that the most recent happened on Monday. Car owners should remember to lock their vehicles at night, and not leave their keys or other valuables inside.

If anyone discovers a vehicle missing or entered overnight, contact the police department immediately at (203) 261-3622.
