MONROE, Conn. -- K9 Gunner worked his last shift Wednesday night, signing off at 11 p.m., according to the Monroe Police Department on Facebook.
After five and a half years with the department, he is retiring.
Gunner and police officer, his handler, Jeffrey Loomis, have partnered since June 15, 2011, said the post.
He is credited with working a number of "noteworthy cases," including after his recovery last year from a life-threatening illness.
