Rayon Williams, 20, of Maple Street, was charged with evading responsibility, failure to drive right, failure to obey a traffic signal and operating without a license, police said.

Witnesses who saw the noon crash said the driver drove through the stop light at the base of Exit 24 northbound and went around a car waiting there before striking signs and the pole on the left shoulder heading into the traffic circle.

They gave police a description of Williams and his passenger, who were found walking south on Black Rock Turnpike.

Upon questioning, Williams admitted he was driving the car. He posted $1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 24.

His passenger was sent on his way.
