Danbury Police Make Drug Bust In Housing Complex Next Door To Station

DANBURY, Conn. -- A woman tried to hide drugs in her bra as police moved in on the man she bought them from in a bust of a couple dealing heroin out of their apartment in the Laurel Gardens housing complex, according to police.

Danbury Police launched an investigation into 24-year-old Denzel Wilkins and 25-year-old Tiffany Ortiz after receiving complaints that the two were dealing drugs from their car and apartment, which is located next door to the police station. 

While conducting surveillance on Thursday, police saw Wilkins selling drugs to 25-year-old Marissa Palumbo of Danbury in a nearby parking lot, according to police reports. 

Investigators approached as Palumbo was getting out of Wilkins's car, and police said that when she saw they were cops she hid the drugs in her shirt and bra. Police found heroin packaged for sale in Wilkins' possession, according to police.

Investigators then proceeded quickly to the Main Street apartment where Wilkins and Ortiz live, and executed a search and seizure warrant. They found Ortiz and a young child in the apartment, and a search turned up more heroin packaged for sale, as well as cash proceeds of drug sales, according to police.

Wilkins and Ortiz were both arrested on a number of drug charges, including possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of narcotics within 1,500 feet of a prohibited place, possession of narcotics with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a prohibited place, possession of drug paraphernalia, and risk of injury a child. 

Wilkins was additionally charged with sale of narcotics and sale of narcotics within 1,500 feet of a prohibited place. Wilkins was given a $25,000 bond, and Ortiz was given a $2,500 bond

Palumbo was charged with possession of narcotics and released on a promise to appear in court.
