Bridgeport Man Pleads Guilty In Fatal Shooting At Restaurant

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A Bridgeport man pleaded guilty in connection with a 2015 shooting at a Park Avenue restaurant, according to the Connecticut Post.

Gregory Hughes, 34, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder under the Alford Doctrine, the Connecticut Post reported. Pleading guilty under the Alford Doctrine means that a defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges that they would likely be found guilty if they went to trial.

Police said that on July 25, 2015, Hughes took part in a shooting that killed Derrick Hill at Rootsman Kitchen in Bridgeport. Hill died at the scene. The owner of the restaurant was also shot but survived, police said.

Hughes went on the run but was arrested the following May, police said.

The Connecticut Post reported that Hughes will receive a 15-year sentence, suspended after seven years, and five years of probation when sentenced July 21.
