Redding First Selectman Julia Pemberton said the town's selectmen were notified of the "very serious car accident" on the Georgetown side of Redding and received updates from Redding Chief of Police Douglas Fuchs.

"The accident is under investigation," Pemberton said in a Facebook post. "More than that we cannot officially say at this time. What information can be released will come from Chief Fuchs at the appropriate time."

She urged residents to "refrain from speculation on social media."

"In our closely knit communities many of you will have personal knowledge of those involved," she said. "Let's focus our energy on thoughts and prayers for the individuals involved in the accident and their families. Keep those prayers going!”

Pemberton also thanked the first responders "who worked quickly to provide care to those in need." She cited the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department, Redding Fire & EMS Company #1, West Redding Volunteer Fire Department and the Redding Police Department.
