BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A Bridgeport man charged with killing his girlfriend and dumping her dismembered body in Trumbull is now standing trial for murder for the third time, according to the Connecticut Post.

The third trial began Wednesday for Jermaine Richards, 34, a private-duty nurse, who is charged with murder in the death of Alyssiah Marie Wiley, 20, who was a sophomore at Eastern Connecticut State University when she was killed in April 2013.

Richards' first two trials ended with hung juries.

On Wednesday, three of Wiley's college friends testified about her relationship with Richards, whom they had never met, the Post said.

On April 19, Wiley texted friends that she had broken up with Richards and was on her way back to campus, but she never returned. Her partial remains were found 27 days later in a wooded area at the end of Quarry Road in Trumbull, about 2 miles from Richards' Bridgeport home.

Wiley's mother, Corinna Martin of West Haven, is attending the trial, the Post said.

In August, Martin’s other daughter, Chaquinequea Brodie, 29, and her 9-year-old granddaughter were found murdered in their Waterbury apartment. Brodie’s boyfriend, Anthony Rutherford, 28, has been charged with murder in the double homicide.

The trial will continue Thursday.
