Road Over Stevenson Dam To Close This Weekend For Maintenance Work

MONROE, Conn. -- Motorists should be prepared to find another route: The Stevenson Dam will be closed in both directions from Saturday through Monday.

The Stevenson Dam. A closure and detour of traffic on Route 34 (Roosevelt Drive) in both directions at the Stevenson Dam, at the Oxford/Monroe town line, will occur from June 4-6.

The closure on Route 34/Roosevelt Drive will occur from 6 a.m. Saturday, June 4, to 11:59 p.m. Monday, June 6.

The closure and traffic detour is necessary to perform maintenance work on the Stevenson Dam.

In an effort to minimize the impact to the public, most of the work will be done throughout the weekend.

The same closure will reoccur from 6 a.m. Saturday, June 25, until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, June 26.

Traffic will be detoured using Route 111, Route 110 and Bridge Street in the City of Shelton. Long-distance traffic is advised to take Route 8 and Interstate 84 to avoid the Stevenson Dam.

Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour signs and follow the directions of uniformed police officers.
