REDDING, Conn. -- Redding officials are looking at a super-fast Internet service that can download an entire copy of the movie "The Titanic" in less than five seconds, according to the Reddingpilot.com.

The service, part of a statewide initiative called the CT Gig Project, has so interested officials that First Selectman Julia Pemberton has put together a utility task force to see if the service would be useful in Redding, said the Reddingpilot.com.

The super-high-speed service can deliver download rates of up to 1000 megabytes per second (one gigabyte per second), compared to Comcast internet’s current top speed of 150 megabytes per second, reported the Reddingpilot.com.

The CT Gig Project, administered by the state's Office of the Comptroller, looks to aid cities that have expressed an interest in gigabit internet. Under the program, Redding would work with other towns to pursue the project.

The cost to install the infrastructure charged to resident's property taxes and would be significantly lower than they pay currently, added the Reddingpilot.com.

Residents interested in providing the town with feedback on this project can fill out a survey here . Business owners can fill out a different survey here .
