MONROE, Conn. -- The Memorial Day Parade in Monroe is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday. This year’s theme is “Honoring Our Heroes: Past and Present."

The parade participants will assemble on Elm Street south of Monroe Turnpike (Route 111).

When the parade begins, it will travel north on Monroe Turnpike up to the Town Green, where a memorial service and wreath-laying ceremony will take place.

The roads surrounding the parade route will be closed at 1:45 p.m. and no traffic will be allowed in either direction on Monroe Turnpike between the Town Green and the Monroe Turnpike/Elm Street intersection.

All side streets and shopping plazas also will be blocked preventing vehicles from entering onto the parade route. Please plan activities in advance to avoid getting stuck on the day of the parade.

All are welcome to join this community event.

Those who want to participate in the event by providing a marching unit or float, or for those who have any questions, please call Vida Stone in the Town Clerk’s Office at 203-452-2800, Ext. 1027 or e-mail vstone@monroect.org.

There is no rain date for the parade. In case of rain, there will be a memorial ceremony at 2 p.m. in the Monroe Town Hall Council Chambers.
