BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — MGM Resorts International is announcing plans this morning to develop a new casino in Bridgeport.

The planned world-class resort casino, which would be called MGM Bridgeport, would be at Steelpointe Harbor in Bridgeport.

The announcement will be made at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18, at Steelpointe Harbor, 837 Seaview Ave, Bridgeport.

The principals of MGM Resorts International and The RCI Group will make the announcement.

The planned casino and entertainment facility would result in thousands of new jobs, bring increased revenue to the city, surrounding communities and the state, and be funded with private investment money, developers said.

Additional details regarding the plans for MGM Bridgeport will be provided during the announcement this morning.

Jim Murren, chairman and chief executive officer at MGM Resorts International, will be there along with Robert W. Christoph Sr., chairman of The RCI Group, and elected officials.

Steelpointe Harbor, an urban mixed-use development on Bridgeport Harbo, is currently home to the Bass Pro Shop, Chipotle, Starbucks and other retailers. Plans also call for a hotel, movie theater and office and residential space.

There are currently two casinos in Connecticut, Foxwoods and the Mohegan Sun, both in the eastern part of the state. Foxwoods is operated by the Mashantucket Pequot tribe, and Mohegan Sun is run by the Mohegan tribe.

In spring, the state approved plans for a third casino in Connecticut in East Windsor, to be run by MMCT Venture, a joint venture of the two tribes.

MGM is also opening a new casino just over the Connecticut border in Springfield, Mass.

More details on the planned Bridgeport casino are expected at the press conference.
