Corey Senior of New Haven was arrested Tuesday on a federal criminal complaint charging him with heroin distribution offenses, said U.S. Attorney Deirdre M. Daly.

Senior appeared Tuesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Sarah A.L. Merriam in New Haven and was ordered detained pending a detention hearing on May 19 at 9:30 a.m.

A 34-year-old woman was found dead of a suspected overdose in a Shelton home by first responders on April 27, prosecutors said. At the scene, Shelton police officers seized drug and non-drug evidence, including bags that appeared to have contained heroin and a hypodermic needle, Daly said. Investigators also seized the victim’s cellphone, she said.

On April 28, the victim’s cellphone received a text from Senior and an officer posing as the victim arranged to purchase heroin from Senior, police said.

Senior was arrested in the sting by the Shelton Police later that day after he arrived at the victim’s residence with suspected heroin in his possession, Daly said. Police determined that Senior had provided heroin to the victim shortly before her death, Daly said.

The federal complaint charges Senior with possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of heroin, and conspiracy to distribute narcotics. Both offenses carry a maximum of 20 years in prison.

At the time of his arrest, Shelton police said Senior removed a large amount of crack cocaine and heroin from his buttock region.

Shelton police charged Senior with two counts of illegal possession, illegal possession with intent to sell and illegal possession with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school zone. Senior was held on $150,000 bond on the state charges.
