Wilmer Antonio Gomez-Rodriguez, who was last residing in New York, N.Y., was sentenced Wednesday to 87 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release, for trafficking heroin, U.S. Attorney for Connecticut Deirdre M. Daly said Thursday.

On Sept. 10, 2015, a jury found Gomez-Rodriguez guilty of one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, one kilogram or more of heroin, and one count of possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, 100 grams or more of heroin.

According to testimony and evidence at trial, the conviction stems from an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Bridgeport High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area and the Norwalk Police Department into suspected cocaine and heroin distribution by Omar Andrade.

In September 2014, Andrade agreed to provide one kilogram of heroin to an undercover DEA Task Force officer. Andrade, Gomez-Rodriguez and Joel A. Estrella-Disla, were arrested Sept. 30, 2014, after they delivered one kilogram of heroin to a prearranged location in Norwalk.

Gomez-Rodriguez has been detained since Sept. 10, 2015. He faces immigration proceedings after he is released from prison.

Andrade and Estrella-Disla each pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, 100 grams or more of heroin.

On Jan. 6, 2016, Andrade, a citizen of Mexico, was sentenced to 70 months of imprisonment.

On March 2, 2016, Estrella-Disla, a citizen of the Dominican Republic, was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison.
