MONROE, Conn. -- Monroe's proposed budget of $82,815,886 for next year met the Board of Finance's approval in time for an April 4 referendum, according to the Monroe Courier.

The budget reflects a reduction of 0.26 percent over last year's budget and $3.59 million under the February proposal of First Selectman Steve Vavrek, the Monroe Courier reported.

The allocation is $28,174,119 on the town's municipal side and $54,641,767 for education, according to the Monroe Courier.

The town-wide budget referendum will be held Tuesday, April 4 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Absentee ballots are available in the town of Monroe offices as of Friday, March 24.
