Andy Nunn, a Monroe native, served as first selectman from 2001-2007. In November of last year, while seeking new employment after serving at CAO for the city of Bridgeport, he was diagnosed with lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system.

Since the beginning of 2016, he has been receiving chemotherapy, which has been difficult on him, his wife, Dawn, and their four young children, according to those who organized the fundraising effort.

Nunn is described on the GoFundMe page as "a selfeless person who has served his local community for over 20 years as a coach, referee and volunteer." He also has served on numerous community committees.

Money raised through the page will go toward Nunn's medical and daily expenses.

By late Friday night, April 29, the community had donated more than $8,500 to Nunn and his family.
