REDDING, Conn. -- The family of Gugsa Abraham "Abe" Dabela, the attorney who reportedly committed suicide in Redding in 2014 is suing police for allegedly rushing to judgement in determining a cause of death and for improper investigation, according to CT Post.

The suit claims Redding authorities tried to cover up a murder and violated Dabela's civil rights by delaying his permit request for a concealed pistol permit prior to his death, CT Post reported.

The state and Norwalk branches of the NAACP launched investigations into the incident. Dabela's gunshot wound was to the back of the head, and issued a release hours after the body was found calling the death a suicide.

The suit, which seeks an undisclosed monetary award, names the town of Redding, Police Chief Douglas Fuchs and an unnamed killer, CT Post reported.
