REDDING, Conn. — A black bear was spotted in a yard near Redding Center on Wednesday, the Redding Police Department reported on Facebook. A video was added to the Facebook post, courtesy of Officer Ryan Alcott.
Bears are attracted to garbage, pet food, compost piles, fruit trees, and birdfeeders. Residents are reminded to place garbage cans and grills inside a garage or shed and to add ammonia to trash to make it unpalatable.
Residents are asked not to intentionally feed bears, not to approach or try to get closer to a bear to get a photo or video, and not to leave pet food outside overnight.
