For all the years that Morrison has lived in Danbury, she has worked to enhance the quality of life with her energetic and optimistic personal style. Morrison played a leadership role in implementing programs and building community as both a temple administrator at the United Jewish Center and later as the assistant director at The Jewish Federation.

Morrison brought these same interpersonal skills to her work at Ann's Place, where as coordinator of volunteers, she cultivated volunteers during year-round successful fundraising efforts from the much anticipated summer golf tournaments to the Festival of Trees that ushers in the winter holiday season.

For many years, Morrison was a driving force in the advocacy and social justice work done by the Danbury Section of the National Council of Jewish Women. In recent years, Morrison has been volunteering at the local United Way supporting the efforts of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program.

Morrison also runs the Reading Partners Program in 12 Danbury elementary schools, coordinating more than 100 volunteers who work one-on-one with students. This has been a 15-year local effort in response to the National Jewish Coalition for Literacy’s mission to help America's children become life-long readers.

The United Way of Western Connecticut will honor her at its third annual Hometown Heroes Benefit Dinner at The Amber Room Colonnade in Danbury on Saturday, Feb. 27.

All of the honorees have distinguished themselves through philanthropy and volunteerism.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Sonia Manzano, an author and actress who inspired, educated, and delighted children and families as "Maria" on "Sesame Street" for more than 30 years.

A first generation American of Latino descent, her story is one of perseverance and courage as she overcame countless obstacles to become one of the most influential Latinas in television.

The event will include dinner and dancing, as well as silent and live auctions. The evening will be emceed by NFL stadium announcer, John Heffernan. Proceeds from this event will benefit UWWC’s work in support of ALICE families.
