The acquisition on Wood Acre Road off New Canaan Road (Route 123) is the 28th property in the NLT inventory, totaling 90 acres of protected open space. Brightview Senior Living deeded the field to the NLT as a conservation easement under Norwalk’s Plan of Conservation and Development protecting natural environments while encouraging productive residential and commercial development.
NLT President John Moeling said the easement “represents the latest success” of Norwalk’s preservation initiative. The property abuts the site of the old Sons of Italy Hall where Brightview has erected a 90-unit Victorian-style assisted living center called Brightview on New Canaan Road.
At one time the site was occupied by a house that has been demolished. Brightview operates 35 senior centers in eight Northeastern states. A second Connecticut center called Evergreen Woods is located in North Branford.
