That’s the day six teams from the police and fire departments, local K-9 units and Fairfield University’s public safety team will go head to head in the first-ever Pol-Ice Cream Eating Contest to benefit Special Olympics at Saugatuck Sweets.
The rules are simple: Each team of three will be given a “Caruso Kitchen Sink Sundae” to polish off. First team to finish wins the challenge.
But that’s not as easy as it might sound. The kitchen sink sundae is a whopping 14 scoops of ice cream topped with hot fudge, butterscotch, peanut butter sauce, two large cupcakes, chocolate syrup, one full can of whipped cream, a brownie, a chocolate candy bar, four chocolate chip cookies, chocolate and rainbow sprinkles, six cherries, gummy worms and gummy sharks.
Oh, and a banana thrown in for the health conscious.
Saugatuck Sweets owner Al DiGuido is donating all the ingredients for each of the sundaes, which usually retail at $69.95.
So how will this raise funds? That’s where you come in.

All proceeds will go to Special Olympics and the winning team will draw names from its supporters and award several prizes, including one free ice cream a week for a full year.
The fun begins at 6 p.m., June 17, at Saugatuck Sweets, 28 Reef Road.
