Wheeler's puzzle-filled childhood and encouragement from her mother, children's author Elise Broach, led to her becoming the youngest female crossword constructor for The New York Times, according to the Courier.
Wheeler began creating them for The New York Times at age 19 while an English major at Brown University.
Talent scouts reached out to Wheeler to compete on "Superhuman" after seeing the puzzles she had created for The Times.
For the series premiere of "Superhuman," Wheeler and 11 other contestants used puzzle-solving skills to compete for $100,000. Actor Kal Penn hosts the show and the premiere's guest panelists include boxer and entertainer Mike Tyson, actress/comedian Mary Lynn Rajskub and neurosurgeon Dr. Rahul Jandial.
