Easton, Redding Natives Make 'Shopping Sustainable' With New Brooklyn Space

EASTON, Conn. -- Growing up in the more rural parts of Fairfield County helped make Sarah Sproviero (of Easton) and Isa Wang (of Redding) have an appreciation for nature.

That love for the environment, coupled with a desire to promote brands with similar ethos, has led to their first business venture together. The two Barlow High School grads are the founders of Lightfoot Market, a new space in Brooklyn focused on making it easier for people to shop with companies that align with environmental and social values.

The space, at 26 Bridge Street, debuted on Sunday, April 30 with a team that includes Redding natives Julia Mellon and Kristin Hanczor.

The thinking behind the new space, said Sproviero, is to help give companies a platform to directly connect with environmentally conscious consumers.

"Right now, being a responsible shopper and making decisions to support brands that care is really resource-intensive," she said.

"Reading every label, doing research on ingredients, and staying in the know about sustainable practices is a huge undertaking.

"Lightfoot Market aims to break down some of those barriers by pre-vetting all of the brands found at our events so that shoppers can purchase responsibly and confidently with ease. We see Lightfoot Market as being a valuable resource to connect both the sustainable brands and the responsible shoppers."

Just as valuable, said Sproviero, is the fact that all four friends went out into the world and gained highly diverse skills, then came back together under a common passion to support brands that give back to the earth and communities in need.

Check out www.lightfootmarket.com for events but keep in mind, Lightfoot will be putting on a holiday market in late November or December.
