There was also a barbecue cook-off with samples for all to taste and enjoy.
About eight to 10 groups set up in the Imperial Avenue parking lot, just below the Levitt. They each cooked up their specialties, and in mid-afternoon Saturday, they were judged.
At the side of the lot was Westport’s EMS, a voluntary and community-funded organization. Kids' activities included bouncy houses and slides. Westport’s teen center, Toquet Hall, set up a booth/tent with games for kids.
Volvo of Westport donated a car for kids to paint at an area staffed by high school students who participate in Builders Beyond Borders. The group raises money and makes annual trips to places such as Latin America, where they spend a school vacation week working on village infrastructure projects. The Sunrise Rotary Club and Westport Rotary Club served as beer pourers at the two tents — in the parking lot and inside the Levitt.
There were merchants galore, from the trinkets and trivia purveyors to Volvo of Westport, a wealth management firm, a bunch of hot sauce and other condiment sellers.
Clean up and set up was performed by "SLOBs" -- the Staples League of Boys, a group involved with community service projects throughout the year.
