Austin Buoni, a Stratford resident and 2014 graduate of Bunnell High School, worked with both the Shelton and Trumbull fire departments. He also graduated from the Valley Fire Chiefs Regional Training School.

Buoni, who attended Housatonic Community College, worked at Panera Bread for more than a year.

The crash occurred around 1:40 a.m. on Kings Highway East at the intersection of Chestnut Stree, Town of Fairfield Police said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Buoni of Stratford was the sole occupant operating a 2005 Nissan Altima traveling eastbound on Kings Highway East when he lost control of his vehicle and began to slide across the eastbound travel lane before striking a utility pole off the right side of the road where the vehicle came to rest.

Austin was the son of Nancy Kellerman and Joe Buoni and brother to Arinn and Allison.

"Unfortunately along with unexpected tragedy comes the burden of finances," the GoFundMe page states.

As of Monday morning, about $9,000 of the page's goal of $25,000 goal has been raised.
