MONROE, Conn. — The second weekend for the Monroe Historical Society's annual Christmas Fair kicks off Friday, with a selection of gifts, home decorations, ornaments and much more, at the One Room Schoolhouse.

The Christmas Fair serves as a fundraiser for the Monroe Historical Society. All of the items are donated for the event.

The hours are:

  • Friday, Dec. 4, 3 to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 5, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, Dec. 6, noon to 4 p.m.

"This is a great fundraiser for us," said Madeline Marshall, a historical society volunteer. "And we like to utilize our historical buildings — this is our One Room Schoolhouse - and everything is run by volunteers.

"We hope the smell of apple cider (given away with cookies at the fair) gets everyone in the mood for Christmas. ... This is an annual tradition for us."

For more information on the Monroe Historical Society, visit www.monroecthistory.org , call 203-261-1383 or 203-268-351, or send an email to society@monroecthistory.org.

The fair will take place at the One Room Schoolhouse at 311 Wheeler Road.
